The B&G Series: The Other Girl

This post is also published online by Thought Catalog as my very first online publish. One of the first inspirations for The B&G Series.

As women, we typically hate the Other Girl. When we find out our boyfriend was seeing someone else, we tend to not like the Other Girl more than him. But, the farther I get away from what happened to me when I was cheated on and when my friends have been left for someone else, I see clearer. I have found my anger and hatred turn into sadness. I have become sad and feel bad for this particular Other Girl.

At first, we don’t take into account that this guy probably wasn’t honest with her. He wasn’t honest to you, so what would make him any more honest in the situation with the Other Girl? We don’t know what they were fed too. We ate up his lies, so can you blame her too? We can say, “It was clear we were in a relationship on Facebook!” But who knows what he was telling her. He could have been telling her problems in your relationship (real or fake) and that he would be breaking up with you next week. We don’t know.

When we become sober from the toxic relationship that we were in and when we are healing our hearts, we finally see those red flags and negative things we hadn’t picked up before. We now see the things our family and friends would try to warn us about. Maybe he was controlling. Maybe manipulative. Or maybe he was too immature or just simply not good enough for us. But we scoffed, rolled our eyes, and cued the stream of excuses for him because we seem to be good at that. Making excuses for significant others.

Now that you can finally see what type of person you had been dealing with, the Other Girl doesn’t seem so bad. Yes, there is some caddy Other Girls. They can do petty things such as start “liking” all of his Facebook updates the moment he changes his relationship status as if they had been waiting for days to do so. You can be annoyed, just don’t let it get to you too much.

But now, I may be feeling too sad for them. I should care less what happens with the Other Girl and her new boyfriend. It’s none of my business and not my problem now, right? But I can’t help to get a little sad knowing a girl got a second-hand, unoriginal proposal when I know it was the same plan he had made with my friend he was in a serious relationship with just months before.

It’s a little haunting to see your ex not be able to look at this Other Girl the same way he did with you. With love and pride that you are his. She doesn’t get that. She doesn’t have a cute story of how they met and started their relationship. It’s overshadowed by lies and unfaithfulness. Or her version of the story might be totally different than his. The air of dishonesty may lurk for a long time. She might forever wonder if the same thing will happen to her. She may be living self-consciously.

As the girls that have been cheated on, we can be pissed. Our feelings can be hurt. We can think she won and that we came in second. We can say she took our love away and our dreams we had with a man we thought was the one. And we can hate that she took away our sex too.
We can spend all night trying to figure out how she could be better than us. Because we think she must be if he is with her over us, right? No. I have come to find that I’d rather think about all the wonderful things I gained instead. How much life became better.

I think about the numerous people I have met, the trips I have taken, the adventures I have been on, the drunken nights I have had with my best friends, and all the times I have danced my heart out. I think about all the first kisses I’ve gotten to experience and the dates I’ve been on. I think about all the things I’ve learned I could do on my own and how it feels empowering. The things that would have never happened had I still been with him. I smile. Because my life became a lot more fun once I closed the door.

There are no more fights. I am no longer changing my dreams for someone else and no longer boxed in. I am not being controlled or manipulated. There are simply no more lies from him. The Other Girl now gets to wonder what the truth is. She has his insecurities and selfishness. She’s chained down now.

So I sit here. My heart can’t help but feel sad for these Other Girls. Maybe I am too nice, as I have been told. Maybe I don’t like seeing girls in that same dreadful position I once was in. But I also sit here wanting to thank the Other Girl for hurting me. I want to thank her for taking it all away and setting me free.

Sunday Sprinkle: The Kind of Guy

Next part of the Boys & Girls series---a poem

The Kind of Guy

He is the kind of guy that’s tall
and looks handsome in a navy suit
that fits him perfectly enough
for you to check out his nice butt.
His big gold accented watch completes it.

He is the kind of guy that’s charming
and smart enough to get accepted
to a long list of law schools even if
he still doesn’t know if that’s what he
wants to do. He buys you a drink.

He is the kind of guy that’s charismatic
with a large group of friends, but will
make conversation and flirt with you
in the corner of the booth because he knows
you are hot. He likes to be charmed himself too.

He is the kind of guy that’s sweet
and will hold your hand as you walk
to the next bar. He’ll tell you, “You’re too pretty
not to have a drink” and will buy you another
even if you don’t want it. He’ll say you can give it away.

He is the kind of guy that’s good
at kissing you on the cheek right before
he kisses you on the lips without caring
who sees. He’s good and tastes even better.
You wipe the red lipstick off around his mouth.

He is the kind of guy that’s aware
and can flag down a cab within seconds.
The kind of guy that keeps his cash in a clip.
When you two are alone he’ll help unzip your top gently
and be sure to kiss you twice before he leaves.

The B&G Series: Boy Categories

Maybe it’s slightly stereotyping, but maybe I am going off of experience. After 3 years of being single with a slight stint of a short-term relationship, I’ve encountered an array of boys and enough of them to start forming categories. Categories that also help me figure out how to deal with them and treat them overall.

So I present to you a few categories I have come up with and experienced. Now, when I group some of them together, there are a few exceptions that aren’t exactly like my description. I know this. So please don’t get offended. These are just some things to think about!

I present to you the following categories of boys:

The Frat Guys – These guys are about brotherhood, but more often than not, when it comes to girls, the bond gets a little gray and the lines get overstepped. It doesn’t matter too much if one has a crush on you. Others will still pursue you anyway. The parties, date nights, and formals are a lot of fun and should be experienced at least once if you are a college student. They know how to have fun and always make sure to.

Baseball Boys – I’ve heard about the stigma of them being jerks and I haven’t learned otherwise. I’ve pitched the idea with 3 different ones.
One – Led me to believe he was single when he actually was in a serious relationship with a girl long distance and tried to lie about it even when I had proof.
Two – Didn’t treat my best friends very well and I just wasn’t having it.
Three – Dropped me just as fast as he had reeled me into liking him.
To me, that looks like 3 big strikes. So I won’t be holding my breath for one to change my mind. Too many curve balls for me.

The Weekenders – Typically, you will only hear from these guys on the weekend. School, sports, jobs, and other things come first during the week, but weekends are for having fun and chasing girls. You see them at the bars with friends and flirting with girls. They may text you before the night gets started wondering what you will be doing and where you will be going for the night. Others will text you as the night is winding down especially after they see you out. Their level of attractiveness is high while any level of commitment is terribly low. They are the spontaneous fun time guys. Don't get your hopes up for anything more.

The Good Guys – Now these are not the average good guys. These are the really really good guys. Most of the time, they are from a small conservative town and have a great religious background. They can almost be too good and even make the good girls feel a little bad. Having grown up in a big city surrounded by both liberals and conservatives, different races, sexual orientations, and religions, it makes it a little hard to mesh well with them. They get tempted, but can feel bad making out with a girl they aren’t in a relationship with. But man, they will make great husbands with the right lady just for them.

The Charmers – Oh, the lines. You don’t have normal conversations with this person. It’s straight up flirting the whole time. They are smart and somewhat smooth. They challenge you and question you all the while you do the same thing back to them. They are fun to debate and compete with, but good luck having any relationship with them. Either they aren't really that invested in your or it's just exhausting.

The Lingerers – They like to lurk. On social media. They might delete you on Snapchat or unfollow you on Twitter, but they will most likely come back. Their egos are big and they portray a lot of confidence, but personally can’t approach me properly. They will watch my Snapchat stories and like my latest Instagram photo. When I see them out, they will look at me from across the bar, but not even acknowledge me as I pass by. But then they will promptly send me a Snapchat after I have left or text me after I have left town to ask me on a date.

 …

Wondering where the bad boys are? They are so extensive, they get their own future post. :)

A Word to the "Taken" Boys

I don’t know whether I am more irritated or just simply tired. I am tired of the same old sneakiness and sleaziness. So I am here to give it straight to ya.
Please   Please   Please   if you have a girlfriend, respect her. Please don’t talk to me with sketchy intentions. I’ve been on every side of the word “cheat” and I’ve never thought any them looked good. In any light.
I can tell you that I take it pretty seriously. Once, I literally sat down a guy that consistently chased after me, who had a long time girlfriend, to look him in the face and tell him that as long as he was in a relationship, he was going to get absolutely nowhere with me. And I told him why. I told him my story.  I told him in hopes maybe he would get the consequences and hurt that can come with it. And to tell you, it ruins any chance of a relationship (if you even cared to have one) with me because I already know what you are okay with and do on the down low. Starting a relationship with someone who tried to reach me in such a dishonest way does not appeal to me.

And to those that are a bit sneakier, I will find out. My best friends are really good at finding just about anything out and they are great at telling me about it too. So when I tell you I know you have a girlfriend, just accept it. No need to lie because it will make you look that much worse.

One of the reasons why I am not okay with “taken” guys privately messaging me on social media and/or text is because if you were to get caught by the girlfriend, probably about 9 out of 10 times, she would dislike me automatically for something I didn’t initiate most likely 10 out of the 10 times. I don’t want to be hated over someone I am not interested in or something I didn’t do.
If you are engaged, please don’t try to make small talk with me over Facebook message.
Don’t pour your heart out to me via text claiming you wouldn’t want a relationship right now with anyone else, but would with me, then get into a relationship a couple days later. It almost makes me feel like you “pre-cheated” or something and now I just feel awkward. For you and the girl.

Don’t tell me you wouldn’t be upset if I texted you. I would rather you not be upset when your girlfriend texts you.

I realize that relationships, especially long term, can fade, get boring, lose it’s spark, and actually become some work. But I can tell you, I am not going to be able to fix it. There might be some kind of allure of talking to someone new. Maybe I am some sort of attraction or fantasy, but I am not a reality to you. Either try to ignite that spark with your lady or take it as a sign that maybe it’s time to let her go. And maybe she can have another chance to find someone that can adore her fully and give her everything she deserves. Think about her too and at least give her that.

And my name is spelled RACHEL.

Boys: The Semi-Annual Post

It was about a year ago when I first bravely made a post about boys. Then around six months later, I posted more things I learned. Now with the Victoria’s Secret Semi-Annual sale starting, I’m taking that as my cue to do my semi-annual post about boys yet again. You can never stop learning, right?

I went to lunch with my Ambassador bro towards the beginning of the semester and we had a good chat. He filled me in on some things such as how boys operate, think, and do things. I told him I was at a point where I wanted to play their game. You know the whole play the field and make sure to put my feelings on a tight leash kind of thing. He told me I wouldn’t be able to, that I’d get burned. Eh, maybe he is partly right.

“I wear my heart up on my sleeve like a big deal.” – Calvin Harris, I Feel So Close

As if I hadn’t ran myself thin enough with everything I’m involved in and do, I was running my emotions, feelings, and heart ragged too. There was a point I felt like I was dragging them on dirt and gravel. I even made a whole meditative poem about my heart for class. I somehow keep finding ways to incorporate my heart in my writing lately. People tell you that when you are single, it is the best time to “play the field” and see what you like and don’t like. I have been, but is there a point in which you can play too much or too hard? Remember last year, when dates seemed really obsolete in my life? Well somehow, I managed to score 3 pretty legit dates in a very short amount of time. While part of me was feeling lucky to get the chance another part of me was not all the way there and I was just…exhausted and worn out. I was tired of having the same conversations over and over. Hearing the same lines and sentences, taunted me or they lost their meaning and power. By this time I was getting good at keeping those feelings on that tight leash and tried not to get attached. With everything else going on in my life, I just wasn’t all there. So I recommend trying the multiple date thing only when you are pretty well balanced and feeling good about every other part of your life and you are just looking to have fun. If you need to focus on other areas in your life or you kind of want to just focus on one person, eh, don’t do it. It can be overwhelming.

Fall semester seemed to be all about boys that had girlfriends that would try to talk to me. Now it’s the season of meeting the girlfriends of boys that once had interest in me and vice versa. Times such as coming across one at the bar and we start to chat it up and then I get the “Oh, Rachel, this is my girlfriend, ________.” Or how about this one. A boy that I’ve known started talking to me just about every day and there was some flirting exchanged and even a compliment or two. It was on a Friday night when the guy was texting me and then I see him Saturday night out and about with friends. We exchange a hug, have a little small talk and then the guy proceeds to walk away as the girl he was with grabs his hand and they walk down the sidewalk  together. I wish I had seen my face. I’m sure it was classic with my over animated facial expressions people tell me about. I paused and looked at my friend who immediately made a comment about the situation being weird. Then coincidently I start to walk on with my friends and see one of those guys in the first scenario once again out with his girlfriend hand in hand. “Oh hey.” These moments aren’t lost on me.

For BUILD Beauty, I was finally able to do something I had wanted to do for a long time now. We hosted a “Guy Panel.” I personally asked boys that I trusted to be pretty honest and brave enough to participate in this event. There would be a panel of them and they would allow girls to pretty much ask them anything they wanted to and pick their brains. I believe I had about 11 brave boys that ended up being troopers for the event. Girls asked them an assortment of questions such as, does make up really matter, how do you like girls to dress, who should text first and how often, who should say I love you first, how do they feel about shaving, etc. Discussion went on for over an hour and then they were allowed to ask the girls questions. They asked a lot of the same questions, turning the tables on us. I appreciated their answers and it was interesting to hear them open up about the opposite sex. One of the things I probably liked the most was this underlying motif of confidence. It kind of always seemed to come down to confidence being the key. Yes, they like seeing us girls get dressed up every once in awhile (don’t need to pack on the makeup) but they also like when we can pull off some cute gym shorts and a t-shirt and they like if we can do that even makeup-less while owning it. We can rock the sweats and look good if we wear them confidently. Now, make sure you don’t mix confidence with cockiness! Oh, and another thing. They are just about as clueless and confused as we are about pretty much everything too!

You can watch footage from the panel at the ESU Bulletin website! They have 4 different videos that you can access on their YouTube channel through their site link I am sharing with you all. :)

Inevitably, I burned bridges. I lost someone that I not only really liked, but someone that was kind of like a best friend to me. But things happen for a reason!

“It was rare, I was there, I remember it all too well.” – Taylor Swift, All Too Well

Like I said before, I ran my emotions and heart ragged and I got good at not having feelings. I hadn’t had butterflies in a really long time. One of my last posts included a poem about butterflies and stemmed from that period of time where I hadn’t experienced butterflies in quite awhile and I contemplated that feeling and what it takes to feel that. It was actually shortly after posting that poem on the blog, that I had a night where I experienced them once again. It felt good. Boys: Girls like to slow dance. We don’t get many occasions to slow dance, but you can always create an occasion yourself.

I’ve come to find out that guys talk just about as much as girls talk to each other about things. There were times I encountered guys that had friends that I was friends with too and I would say something to one of them and then sometimes not even hours later, I would get, “Yeah, he told me about that!” We may think they only talk about stuff like sports, food, cars, hot girls and the like, but they actually do talk! So watch out!

As of right now, I am keeping on the down low and more to myself about this area of my life. Heck, you will probably find out pieces in about six months in my next boys post, right? I kept this post pretty general and left out lots of details. Didn't want to get too personal with this one. Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions for further posts! Or if you just want to chat! :)

Take time for yourself and be confident.

Boys - More Things I've Learned

Over summer, I made a post called simply, “Boys.” Within not even 24 hours, I was flooded with texts, emails, comments, and messages by not only boys, but girls as well. I even had about 4 date offers. I haven’t had a response like that to a post even to this day. As the end of the year wraps up, it means I’ve had another half of a year or so of random experiences, first kisses, awkward moments, anger, smiles, a couple tears, disappointments, observations, and array of poems to capture the intense moments, good and bad.

With taking a poetry writing class and then having my project in my seminar of creative writing class involve me writing an anthology of poems about my life in the boy department, I’ve really had to stretch my brain, emotions, words, thoughts, and feelings. I’ve had to do a lot of writing and luckily life hasn’t given me too many dull moments, but instead a lot of material to turn into poems. The classes made me grow and really get me out of my box to where I am writing things I, unfortunately, cannot share on here. But I do want to include snipits of favorite parts and lines from them throughout this post.

Here it is: Boys – More Things I’ve Learned

I’m with a boy
from UCLA
that just bought me ice cream
from a little shop
across the way.
While in Indianapolis at a conference, a boy from UCLA and I were drawn to each other. It was really neat getting to know him and finding out how different things are with our schools and where we live. Sometimes I forget how big the world is and he reminds me of that.
He spits out the chocolate chips
because he only likes the mint.
That whole time with him felt like a movie in that city. We’ve still been able to keep in contact since then and who knows, with how unlikely it seems that I will see him again in person, you never know maybe it will happen someday!

But really these feelings are untrue
because I don’t mean that much to you.
I had a huge crush on someone and let him in too far, too fast. We had a falling out. Now he lives in the same apartments as me…with his now girlfriend.

I had a crush.
My heart beat fast.
Never thought you would rush
and I’d come in last
There was one guy that I was talking to and lead me on until I saw he got into a relationship…over Facebook.

I hate that I let you disappoint me.
I hate that I let you waste
my time,
my breath,
my words.
I let you take up space on my paper,
my clean paper.
I let you take part of my creativity
when I could be writing about beautiful
things.

Someone broke the record. He talked to me every day for months, took me to a movie, and shared kisses with me. First guy I had the “next step” talk with, a possible relationship down the road. He was supposed to be the “good guy” that everyone likes. Different from the jerks I had wasted time on. He complimented my eyes. Something I don’t get from guys often. But then he stopped, went away. Another fall out. That was one of my lowest points, but minimal tears were to be cried. For some reason, a boy hasn’t been able to make me really cry in a long time. I just didn’t know if I had used up all my tears last year or maybe my skin is just getting thicker after every burn. Maybe the poems have taken my emotions from me to where I don’t need to cry. He sparked “A Bitter Rant To Boys.”

I dropped my purse to the ground
I’ve had a lot of these movie moments as I like to think of them. Having ice cream with a UCLA boy in a beautiful city on a Friday night would be a prime example. There is also something about dropping your purse to the ground right before a kiss or dropping your clutch during one that gives me a movie feel. Girls, try it out sometime. It’s kind of like in Princess Diaries when she wants her foot to “pop” during her first kiss. Try to “drop” something next time. It kind of has a thrilling feeling.

He’s easy to spot at the bar
because he’s tall
and charm shines
through his blue eyes
and bright white smile.
He mingles with people
making them laugh
along with him.

I like his laugh.

So I met this guy. I remember the night clearly. Ever since he talked to me first that night at the bar, we’ve had this weird little relationship. We’ve spent time together on numerous occasions. He is really different and has this funny adorable personality, but school keeps him really busy and he is a horrible texter and will openly admit it. So when we do see each other, it is usually random, spontaneous and unplanned. (I’ve found it’s usually the spontaneous nights that are the best in general!) I chose that particular part of the poem to depict him because there have been times I will be out with friends and I can see him from a distance and I picture Ryan Gosling at the bar in Crazy Stupid Love. How the focus is on him as he is mingling with ease. That’s him. Have you heard about being weak in the knees? It’s possible, a real thing. He is really laid back and doesn’t seem to take life too seriously. I like that because I’m usually taking it too seriously. He reminds me to chill out. The last time I hung out with him not long before he left he said, “You know what my motto is? I’m an owl and I don’t give a hoot.”

“Don’t look at me. You got a girl at home and everybody knows that, everybody knows that.” – Taylor Swift (Girl At Home)

Recently, I’ve had a couple encounters where boys tried to lie about having girlfriends. One of them really had me fooled at one point, but luckily my roommate was able to find things out. That is something you should know about me. I have been blessed with great close friends that really know how to find stuff out. When they do find out, they aren’t afraid to tell me even though I may hurt, feel stupid, or be embarrassed and I am so thankful for that! Boys should know that girls talk and we do find things out. Also, sometimes it is as easy as getting on Facebook or Twitter.

“And yeah I might go with it if I hadn’t once been just like her.” – Taylor Swift (Girl At Home)

My heart does feel for these girls that have no clue what is happening while their boyfriends are at a different college. I once was that oblivious girl and luckily I had family and friends that had my back and was a great support system to get me through it. Being told by my close friends was one of the best things to happen for me and sometimes I wish that I could tell them and set them free like I was able to do, but who’s to say they will believe a stranger. It would probably not help anything and might even backfire on me. I’d be the one to blame. Is it even my business anyway? I don’t want to burn bridges. I will pray and hope that maybe one day something will change for them. That they may get the chance to move on to something better or these guys will learn what respect is. In the meantime, I will do just about as much as I can do. Confront the guys and tell them to respect the girlfriend they have or move on.

I got caught up.
It wasn’t your eyes.
Not even your smile.
I got caught up in someone that I couldn’t even explain why I was attracted. But I really was. That doesn’t happen very often for me. Usually there is something that sticks out or some kind of reason. But this one was different. A lot different from the same guys I had usually gave my attention to. Maybe it was the way he carried himself, the confidence he gave off, his witty ways, how he could hold a conversation. Something was there. It seemed like there was something between us possibly. You know how people say stuff like it felt like there was nobody else around. Like it was just the two of them? Like nothing else mattered at that moment? Yeah, that is a real thing too.
You tempted me
to taint my reputation,
to flirt with trouble.
You caught me.
You caught me.

Since the last “Boys” blog post, the number of dates I have been on has not increased very much at all. I could probably still count on one hand. I used to be a little bitter about it until I thought about it more and experienced my own small bank account, that dates in college are pretty slim. They cost money and money is very minimal in the lives of college students. BUT there are ways around it. Getting ice cream some night wouldn’t be that bad, going to a park and looking at the stars doesn’t cost anything, and even watching a movie together sounds good since that rarely happens either. With my busy schedule, a movie night sounds divine just to get my mind off things and having time away from reality and life for a little bit.

Some look,
but don’t touch
They don’t want
to take the chance.
For my project in Seminar of creative writing, I worked on poems with the extended metaphor of being a Barbie. That was fun. One them I made was about the idea of having me. I am still going through the boys that talk to me and act like their interested, and then don’t hear from them. It has become a pretty common thing to where I’m getting used to it. As my friend Marcus would say, “NEXT!”
Some flirt
with the idea of having me,
but it’s too much work.
They put me back on the shelf.

If you want something, you just gotta say it. Sometimes you have to be straightforward with boys and just tell them what you want. Unfortunately, they can’t read our minds. Sometimes they won’t know unless you speak up.

People pass
and time keeps going
while neither of us notice.

I’ve also felt this reoccurring thought of time. I am a junior in college now and I usually talk to guys my age or older. So you find someone you are interested in and they graduate in the next semester. So what do you do? Everyone in college have these plans and dreams, some concrete with others up in the air. Some interested in grad school and others with job opportunities in other towns. Is it the best idea to try to begin something? I found that I am kind of like Taylor Swift when it comes to boys. I don’t really care, I go with the flow and see where it takes me even when I have the big chance of getting burned and hurt down the road. I appreciate those exciting times and the thrill of what is going to happen. It’s nice to get to know people and learn something from them. Whether it is a reminder that the world is big, to not take life too seriously, or I learn something about myself through them.

I’ve had to deal with awkward situations and learned how to stay strong when I come across someone that I had a falling out with. I take it as learning experiences and opportunities to grow.

Distance. Another factor that gets in the way. You may find someone pretty cool, but there is a lot of land separating you. Yes, with technology, it is easy to skype, facetime, text, etc. But it’s a challenge to see each other in person. It’s even harder when you haven’t been with them and you are trying to start something. One said he would try for a relationship if I was at the same school, but I am not. I also had a guy I met at conference that goes to the University of Texas at San Antonio that read my “Boys” blog and had said he would take me on a date if he could. It’s just that…he is in Texas. He wants a manual on girls. I told him I’d send him one. Us girls aren’t the only ones requesting manuals on the opposite sex these days!

There were no colors on the white walls and cement stairs,
but he brought color to me.

One disappointment I’ve had to accept is losing a great friend. I loved hanging out with him and joking around. After a night of going back and forth, he sometimes doesn’t acknowledge me or the most we mutter to each other is, “hey.” I somewhat feel punished because I didn’t feel the same way. Maybe he was hurt. If you want to read about the possibility of girls and boys actually being just friends, read a past blog post of mine, “Can We Be Friends?: Friendships with the opposite sex.” Also, you can check out “A Touchy Subject” for another debate with the opposite sex subject!

I've heard I am intimidating. I'm flattered, but don't know if that works against me?

Texting is its own thing now. It almost seems like it is too complicated. How often should you text? Should you text first or wait for him? Should you reply right away or wait awhile? Is every day too much? Or every other day? It really hit me how complex we’ve made texting when I found myself sitting on the ground in the relationship section of the library reading through a book titled, “Flirtexting.” Yes, it is real too. It was a whole book dedicated to teach you how to “flirtext.” Apparently, it’s a new way of texting. It taught you how not to reply too fast because that shows you are desperate, how to be flirty with your messages, and reassured you that texting was beneficial because you had time to think of something witty and really polish what you want to say before you send it. Yes, as if us girls have nothing else to worry about, we now have texting to add to our list of things to overanalyze. One of my friends and I discuss the topic of texting. We are the type of girls that like to text a lot so we enjoy boys who know how to text and can text pretty frequently. It is hard to find a happy medium because it is possible for me to get annoyed with a boy who texts TOO much and then I get irritated if it takes awhile just to get a reply. So boys, that can give you something to think about! Are you a good texter?
P.S. Girls really really really like good morning and goodnight texts. Thought I’d put a word in J

Overview

Boys
1.      Cheap/free dates are possible. Just get creative! You don’t have to make it harder than it is.
2.      Avoid being a slow/minimal texter.
3.      Good morning and goodnight texts are always welcome!
4.      Girls almost always find things out!
5.      Be honest.
*Listening to Taylor Swift might also help to find out how girls feel in all kinds of situations!
Girls
1.      Try to “drop” something in your next kiss.
2.      Apparently don’t reply too fast or over text a guy!
3.      Boys are just as confused as we are.
4.      That means we have to speak up!
5.      Be honest.

It’s been a good time since my last post. Despite the couple tears, bumps in the roads, burns, and lies I had encountered, I’ve learned and I am happy about that. I thank the boys for the motivation and inspiration that I get to channel into poetry. I got A’s J I loved the movie moments and the times I’ve smiled. Can’t wait to see what the new year has in store in the boy department!

No sounds filled that empty stairwell
except our breath trying to catch up with us.
